English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs

There are 2 Programs for ESL Students at UCNJ:

Learn English through a combination of listening, speaking, reading and writing classes! 类 are available for students at all levels.

The College’s ESL programs help students to improve their English to meet academic, and career goals. After placement testing, students are advised on the appropriate ESL level of instruction depending on their abilities (Placement testing is available on campus year-round.)

ESL Program Goals

  • CEWD英语 (初学者)

    CEWD英语 – Program for 初学者 Students

    初学者 Students are encouraged to take classes in UCNJ’s CEWD英语 Program (Center for Economic and Workforce Development). 初学者 Students are those who have taken the College ESL Placement Test and are placed into level 1 or 2.

    The program introduces the students to the fundamentals of the English Language with emphasis on speaking and comprehension. testing occurs at the end of each cycle of instruction, and students can advance to other levels of English instruction, to Adult Basic Educational classes, Occupational Training or enter Postsecondary Education depending on their individual test results.

    CEWD英语 students are often interested in:

    • GED or 基本技能 preparation 类
    • ESL for Career Pathways
    • ESL Citizenship Preparation 类

    Intermediate and advanced students are encouraged to take classes in UCNJ’s 国际教育协会 Program (Institute for Intensive English). Intermediate and advanced students are those who have taken the College ESL Placement Test and are placed into levels 3-6.
